Final Fantasy VII Remake PC: A Lackluster Port

The highly-anticipated Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade has finally made its way to PC via the Epic Games Store, but unfortunately, it's a port that feels like an afterthought. While the game itself is still enjoyable, the PC version lacks many of the features and visual enhancements that players have come to expect from modern games.

One of the most noticeable omissions is the lack of advanced graphics settings. The game only offers five video settings in total, with no options for DLSS, FSR, Ray Tracing, or 3D audio. This means that even on high-end hardware, the visuals may not be as polished as players would like.

Texture and shadow resolution are also limited to just two settings: high and low. While this might not be a major issue for some players, it's still disappointing to see such basic graphics options available.

The game's story is still engaging, with Cloud taking part in an Avalanche operation to destroy Mako Reactor 1 in the city of Midgar. The ragtag group of idealists known as Avalanche are one of the last bastions of resistance against Shinra Electric Power Company, which has all but seized control of the entire world by exploiting mako.

However, the PC version's lack of features and visual enhancements makes it feel like a bare-bones port. Cloud is still tormented by visions of a bitter enemy long thought dead, and the city of Midgar is plunged into fiery chaos after the bombing.

Despite its limitations, Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade on PC is still an enjoyable experience for fans of the series. The game's combat system, which combines traditional command-based combat with real-time action, is still engaging, and the addition of FF7R EPISODE INTERmission offers a new story arc featuring Yuffie Kisaragi.

Ultimately, the PC version of Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade feels like an afterthought, and it's unclear whether Square Enix will add more features or visual enhancements in the future. For now, fans of the series may want to stick with the PlayStation version for a more comprehensive experience.
